On our webcast of March 29 we came up with - on-the-air and on-the-spot - a
new segment to both our website and the webcasts. From now on we'll have a
Website of the Week that we'll introduce during each webcast.
Since our webcasts are generally every-other-week we'll cover two weeks in each
webcast. After introducing the Website of the Week, it's only fitting to put a
link to each page we feature. In essence this also functions are our Links
page.
That being said what follows, in chronological order (oldest on top), are The
Jim & Lance
Show Websites of the Week. As we
add a Website of the Week we'll add it to the bottom.
Club977 is one of the favorite Internet Radio Station of
both Jim & Lance. When working on our PCS you'll often find us tuned
into this commercial-free haven of 80's music. Since both Jim & Lance
are huge fans of 80s music it's only natural that this Internet Radio
Station would find it's way to the top of our lists. This is also the
inaugural Website of the Week. for The
Jim & Lance
Show. This station is absolutely
awesome and broadcast in Real, Media Player, and MP3 formats.
Wolf FM is undoubtedly one of the best Internet Radio
stations out there. Run by Steve Wolf out of Nashville, TN, Wolf FM
plays a great variety of music from the late 70s, 80s, 90s, and 00s.
This is the Internet Radio Station that all others are compared to and is
very hard to beat. Steve's story is also quite inspirational. "The Station with Bite" has a website that has
forums, a mailing list, and streams in several different formats. They
also have a sister station at
Howlin' Oldies.com.
The Internet Archive Wayback Machine can be found at
www.archive.org. Here you can
find websites dating back as far as the mind can see. Want to see what
your favorite website looked like in its infancy? Ever go to a website
and say "That's not how I remember that looking? When a webmaster says
he updates his site often do you ever wonder HOW often? You can find
the answers to all these pressing questions by visiting this website.
There is no funner (?), better, more adventurous place on
this planet than Cedar Point. The home of more roller coasters (16)
than any other park on the planet, including the Millennium Force, Magnum,
Wicked Twister and Top Thrill Dragster (420 ft high, 120 mph...whew!), Cedar
Point is an adventure unto itself. Plan a whole day - no, two -
to enjoy everything this park has to offer. Rides, Shows, Food,
Beer...ahhh....heaven...
Jim's favorite radio frequency for over 8 years, 96.3 is
Detroit's best radio - period. They've gone through a number of call
signs (WHYT, WPLT) and images in that time, but on this dial position it's
the On-Air Personalities that make the difference. Currently
highly-respected Detroit area DJ Kevin O'Neill is in the morning spot,
followed by the ever-awesome Allyson and then Scott Vertical.
Have you ever wondered what the top threat to the Internet
community is? What about the question, "Who is being attacked the most?" or,
"What port is being used to access the majority of systems?". Well, wonder
no more! The Dshield site is a product of many network administrators
getting together and informing the entire world about the dirty deeds of the
"hackers" of the world. The site lists the top IP addresses involved in
hacking. The site will allow you to look up any IP address and determine
whether or not that IP address has been implicated in any attacks. Joining
is free and once you do join, you can report any suspicious activity to the
site as well.
These two websites have a common element - death. Not
that our heroes Jim & Lance have a morbid curiosity about death, but they
are, in the minds of our heroes, the authorities on death and of the
final resting places of some of the world's biggest people. On Find A
Grave.com you can research the locations that some of your favorite
ex-celebrities are taking the Big Dirt Nap. Often accompanied by
photos and memorials, there's some pretty fascinating information contained
in this website. You can search by name, location, claim to fame,
date, and even see who's being searched after the most.
Why we continue to call it a Website Of the Week we're not sure,
but we'll try to keep it going just the same!
We'd like to direct your attention to Goatman Hollow.
During the last few webcasts we've been delighted to make friends -
virtually, anyway - with the good folks at Goatman Hollow in Maryland.
They've got a fascinating story and they're great folks. Lance and I
are planning a trip there this fall. Won't you join us for a
fiendishly fun, scary time?
